Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow split peas
- 1/2 medium red onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon black salt
- 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro (corriander) leaves, plus extra for garnish (optional)
- 1/4 cup water
- toasted sesame or mustard oil for frying
Method:

Rinse the split peas under cold water. Cover with plenty of water and soak overnight.

On the next day, wash the split peas and drain off the excess water, then process in a food processor or blender until almost smooth.

Mix the processed split peas with the finely sliced onion, black salt, and other herbs and spices. Then add water and stir until well combined. Let it sit for 30 to 40 mins

Heat a thin layer of oil to a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Create balls (the size of a golf ball) and flatten into fritters. Fry lighty on each side until they turn golden brown. Cook well on both sides until they are well cooked in the centre.

Remove from heat and place on papertowels to drain off the excess oil.
Add corriander to garnish
